Reverend Joe L. Pickett, Jr. is a native of Newark, New Jersey, where he received his early education and began developing the foundation for both his academic and spiritual journey. He is a proud graduate of the prestigious Newark Boys Chorus School and Arts High School, institutions known for cultivating discipline, excellence, and artistic expression. These formative experiences helped shape Rev. Pickett’s character, leadership abilities, and commitment to service.
Answering a deeper call to theological training and spiritual formation, Rev. Pickett continued his studies at Princeton Theological Seminary, where he completed his theological studies in 2016.
Rev. Pickett accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and has faithfully served the church throughout his life in various capacities. As his passion for preaching and teaching the Word of God grew, the call of God upon his life became increasingly evident. In recognition of that call, he was licensed to preach the Gospel in 2015 and later ordained in 2019 through the North Jersey District Missionary Baptist Association.
In April 2026 Rev. Pickett was installed as the fourth Pastor of the Second Macedonia Baptist Church in Elizabeth, New Jersey, a historic congregation committed to worship, discipleship, and community impact.
As pastor, Rev. Pickett is devoted to preaching the uncompromising Gospel of Jesus Christ, teaching the Word of God with clarity and conviction, and guiding the congregation toward deeper discipleship, spiritual maturity, and meaningful service within the community.
Beyond the pulpit, Rev. Pickett has established a distinguished professional career in the financial services industry, bringing more than twenty-five years of experience in risk management, regulatory compliance, and financial oversight.
Rev. Pickett is the devoted husband of Mrs. Demytri N. Pickett, whose partnership in ministry and life has been a constant source of strength and encouragement. Together they are the proud parents of four children, Na’Seem, Louis, Jordan, and Myles.
As a pastor, leader, husband, and father, Rev. Pickett remains committed to helping people discover their God-given purpose, deepen their relationship with Christ, and live lives that reflect faith, hope, and service. Through preaching, teaching, and pastoral leadership, he continues to encourage believers to grow spiritually while impacting their communities for the glory of God.
